Tabaimo: flow-wer arrangement

“This is the last show of the “flow-wer” series that I had been drawing for the past 4 years. 

In retrospect, I seem to have wanted to portray a person’s character, or how he/she must’ve led their lives, by adopting flowers to their aloof body parts, because a person’s individuality is visible on the surface, it’s difficult to tell about them when that skin is stripped off. 

Now then, which flowers should I choose for my body’s parts?”

Gallery Koyanagi is proud to present a solo exhibition by Tabaimo, titled “flow-wer arrangement”.  The exhibition will feature her recent works from the flow-wer series Tabaimo has been working on since 2013.  A group of the drawings that depict flowers sprung from the inner parts of human body will be juxtaposed with a new installation “flow-wer arrangement” which consists of a large wall drawing and video projection over it.  The “flow-wer arrangement” was first presented at Hammer Museum, Los Angels in 2017 and its large-scale installation drew wide attention internationally.  The work will be reproduced in the gallery for the first time after the premier at the Hammer Museum.

In the last few years, she has been energetically engaged in a variety of stage collaborations such as Pascal Rogé's concert for Hamarikyu Asahi Hall 20th anniversary in 2012, and the Ningyo Joruri (traditional Japanese puppet theater) "Sonezaki Shinju” produced and the script written by Hiroshi Sugimoto in 2014.  Also, she directed the performance “Fruits borne out of rust” in 2016.
