Futoshi Miyagi: How Many Nights

Gallery Koyanagi is proud to present “How Many Nights”, a solo exhibition by Futoshi Miyagi. The exhibition features “How Many Nights”, the latest video work of the artist’s ongoing project “American Boyfriend”, Miyagi has been working on since 2012. This 38-minutes video dramatizes the stories of the 5 women situated from the early 20th century to the aftermath of the World War II. There will be a suite of the photographs and objet in the installation, which symbolize the characters and stories from the video.
Futoshi Miyagi was born in 1981 in Okinawa, Japan. He received BA in Studio Art from The City College of New York. He lives and works in Tokyo. His solo shows include: “Brief Procedures” at Daniel Reich Gallery, NY (2006); “American Boyfriend: Bodies of Water” at Kyoto City University of the Arts Gallery, Kyoto (2014). Group shows include: “Time of Others” at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, The National Museum of Art Osaka, Singapore Art Museum, Queensland Art Gallery in Australia (2015-16); “Roppongi Crossing 2016” at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2016). He was selected as a finalist for Nissan Art Award 2015. His first novel “America no Fukei (Scenes from America)” was published on “Bungei” magazine in April 2017, and second novel has just been published in July 2017.
